Oh The Places You'll Go
Solo Exhibition
Gallery 1010
Knoxville, TN
2024
Oh the Places You’ll Go is a collection of work exploring the search for comfort and an effort to visualize an invisible illness. The quilt becomes a symbol for the body, intended for specific purposes in warmth and comfort, but in the work, it becomes foreign and takes on an uncomfortable form that defies its intention. Comfort, both physically and emotionally, is difficult to maintain as a person suffering from a chronic illness. Sometimes appearing fine on the outside, while the body fights itself from the inside. This exhibition includes a gallery edit of The Places You Go, an animated short narrating a journey of a dreamscape turned nightmare through the use of stop motion, animated felt prints, and handmade quilt. Next to the projection is an interactive display of the physical felt assets that can be repositioned with velcro. This body of work actively seeks sensorial gratification through sound, touch, and sight through a curated visual language of symbols and experiences. Please feel free to sit with the pillow installation to view the animation.
